Hear our prayer O Lord ... for animals that are overworked, underfed, and cruelly treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death.... And for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.

Cat Happy does independent rescue and fostering.  We also highly recommend the rescue sites listed on this page...please visit their sites and help if you can - there is so much we can do and so many animals needing loving homes.

And if you haven't visited a shelter in your area lately, remember that animals love being petted and walked - and you can be a great help as a caring volunteer!  Even a little amount of time can mean so much!

And fostering is so needed.  If you can foster just one cat...or one dog it would make a huge difference.  Whatever you can do...God bless you.

A POEM TO MY FOSTER DOG

              I am the bridge
Between what was and what can be.
I am the pathway to a new life.

              I am made of mush,
Because my heart melted when I saw you,
              Matted and sore, limping, depressed,
              Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love.

For one little time you are mine.
I will feed you with my own hand,
I will love you with my whole heart,
              I will make you whole.

              I am made of steel.
              Because when the time comes,
When you are well, and sleek,
              When your eyes shine,
And your tail wags with joy
              Then comes the hard part.
I will let you go--not without a tear,
              But without a regret.
For you are safe forever-- A new dog needs me now.

              From Eric...

I looked at all the caged animals in
              the shelter...the cast-offs of human
society. I saw in their eyes love and
hope, fear and dread, sadness and
betrayal. And I was angry. "God," I said,
"this is terrible! Why don't you do something?
"God was silent for a moment,
and then spoke softly, "I have done
              something. I created you."

KITTEN RESCUE shares photos and tells of the work they do for homeless cats and kittens in California.  They have a wonderful Kitten Care Handbook and the Vet's Corner for great advice. Kitten Rescue shows us all ways we can help homeless animals in our own neighborhoods.

              Charming ball of calico,
              Just a tiny kitty,
              Left to face. the world alone;
              Some folks have no pity.
              Tummy's aching for some food,
              Legs can hardly stand;
Arched up back and pleading eyes. . .
              Where's a kindly hand?
Soft and cuddly ball of fur,
              Conquest, your design.
All you need is one soft heart,
              And you've captured mine.

              An adoption success story

Here in the Houston area, we are very proud of the special animal help group HOPE - HOMELESS & OPHANED PETS ENDEAVOR.  They are an all-foster, No Kill adoption group with a network of individuals and families that provide foster care for animals (some too young or sick for adoption) until they can be adopted into loving, responsible homes.

Also here in Houston are our friends at NOAH'S ARK ANIMAL SANCTUARY, a non-profit animal welfare organization.  Their mission is to take in and assist shelter animals scheduled to be euthanized.  Each year over 100,000 animals are needlessly destroyed in the Houston area.  Animals at Noah's Ark are provided for indefinitely until permanent loving homes can be found.
